The Santa Fe Trail for Kids and Teachers
The first major western trail was the Santa Fe Trail, which stretched 800 miles from Independence, Missouri, to the town of Santa Fe, the capital of Spanish New Mexico. Unlike the Oregon Trail, used to haul settlers to their new homes in the west, the Santa Fe Trail was a trade route, used to haul goods and supplies.
